35. 3 *Really Good* Reasons to FINALLY write your book in 2025. Plus my word of the year!
[00:00:00]
[00:00:02] Jen: Hey, writer. Today I'm giving you three reasons for why this year is the year to finally write your book. Plus, stay tuned all the way to the end for my word of the year and how I chose it and how it's going.
[00:00:19] You are listening to Mom Writes First where we're all about inspiring busy moms to make their writings, dreams a reality.
[00:00:28] Let's go.
[00:00:31] Hello and welcome to Mom Writes. First, I'm your host, Jen. I'm a mom, a writer, and I'm working on my first book. I want you to write your book too, or your poem, or blogs or short stories or whatever it is that you wanna write. I want you to write it. I want us both to see that it's possible for us to be moms right now and writers.
[00:00:58] So today we're [00:01:00] diving into why 2025 is the perfect year for moms to write their book.if you've been sitting on an idea, dreaming of telling your story or longing to create the world of your own through words, then this is your year. This isn't just about writing a book. It's about embracing the fullness of who you really are, sharing your gifts with the world, and so importantly, living boldly into your dreams.
[00:01:32] I do this podcast because I really, truly believe that as moms, our voices matter and they matter. Right now, today. We don't need to wait until our kids are grown up and have left the nest in order to write. And we shouldn't. We need to hear from moms and you know, who else needs to hear from us? Our kids.
[00:01:54] They deserve to have a mom that is happy and fulfilled and pursuing her [00:02:00] dreams, Your example shows them that it's possible for them too. When they grow up to pursue their dreams. So reason number one as to why you need to write your book or short story, poems, blogs, whatever, in 2025.Reason number one is the world needs your voice. Let's face it, moms, we bring a unique perspective to the world. You are the heartbeat of your family and often an emotional. Pillar within your community, your wisdom, your compassion, and your lived experiences are irreplaceable.
[00:02:45] In 2025, we're seeing a cultural shift toward more authentic, more diverse and more relatable stories.
[00:02:55] Publishers and readers alike are hungry for real [00:03:00] voices. Voices like ours. Stories that reflect real life challenges, triumphs and joys. Think about it. The books that shaped you, the ones that made you feel seen or inspired, they were written by someone who took the courageous step to share their own story.
[00:03:23] Imagine being that person for someone else. Your voice has the power to heal, inspire, and ignite change. It's not just about selling books. It's about contributing to a world that values connection and authenticity. Why not let 2025 be the year you add your voice to the mix? It's easier now than ever before to publish your book or to share it on YouTube or in a blog, and 2025 is the year for putting your voice out there.
[00:03:54] The tools to make your writing dream happen are more accessible than ever, whether you [00:04:00] wanna self-publish or pursue traditional routes, there are so many resources, so many communities, so many mentors and coaches, and simply Instagram and TikTok influencers who are really all honestly ready to guide you.
[00:04:14] You don't need to have a degree in creative writing or fine arts or hours of free time anymore.to take one step at a time. And if you're wondering whether your voice can truly make a difference, let me share with you a story that shaped me as a child. the story of a starfish. You might have heard this one before. It's an oldie, but a goodie, as they say. I first read this story when I was in junior high. I think it was part of a forensics piece that I was doing, and the story goes like this. An old man was walking along a beach littered with thousands of starfish, [00:05:00] washed a shore.
[00:05:01] He saw a young boy picking up starfish. One by one and throwing them back into the ocean. The man asked, why are you doing this? There are so many, you can't possibly make a difference. The boy picked up another starfish.
[00:05:18] He threw it into the waves and he said it made a difference to that one.
[00:05:24] Your story, that book, that poem, that short story, your blog, whatever it is. You have been wanting to write that story that is on your heart. It's a starfish. It may not change the entire world to write it and put it out there, but it can deeply impact the lives of those who need it most.
[00:05:51] Never underestimate the ripple effect of your words.
[00:05:56] The second reason for why 2025 is the year [00:06:00] that you need to write is that writing is your legacy. Listen, writer, the time we have on this planet is limited. None of us know how much time we're going to be gifted, how many sunrises we get to see if you have a story, a poem, a blog, a novel, whatever it is that you've been wanting to write.
[00:06:23] The time to write it is now, not just so that you can look back on your life someday without regret and say, Hey, I wrote that, but also for your kids. Do you ever think about the stories your kids will tell about you one day? Writing a book is about more than getting published. It's about creating something that lives on long after you have put down your pen.
[00:06:45] Your book can become a gift to your family, a marker of your courage and a testament to your dreams. Imagine your child holding your book years from now and saying, this is who my mom was, [00:07:00] and she was brave enough to write this. Not only would that be extremely cool, but think about the example that you have set for them.
[00:07:09] Think about what it means for them to have had a mom who did not let her fear or the laundry and dishes and work obligations or soccer drop off, stop her from pursuing her dreams. We all want our kids to grow up to be happy and fulfilled adults. We want them to pursue their dreams, but are we leading the way?
[00:07:34] Are we showing them how? Are we setting that example for them? Are we being brave enough to step into fear and really be vulnerable and put our work out there?
[00:07:46] We all know that kids listen to what we do, not what we say. So what are you doing? What example are you setting?
[00:07:56] This is the year to create your legacy, [00:08:00] not just for yourself, but for your kids and their kids too.
[00:08:05] The third reason for why 2025 is the year to write is that this is a powerful form of self-care
[00:08:14] writing and actually producing and completing a finished work is, in my opinion, a absolutely incredible form of self-care. Now I know that the term self-care has been hijacked and used to sell us all kinds of things, from spa days to skincare, to juice cleanses, to massages, and I love a massage. I love a good bath.
[00:08:37] I love a walk by the river too.
[00:08:39] True self-care, I think, goes so much deeper than some bubbles in a bathtub. It's about honoring your souls desires and making space for the dreams that you have carried. On about for years.
[00:08:58] Writing [00:09:00] isn't just about the finished product, it's about the process. It's about carving out time for yourself in a world that is constantly pulling you in a million directions.
[00:09:11] Writing can be cathartic. It can help you process emotions, celebrate your wins, and even make sense of all those really big challenges that you've faced. Every word that you write is a step towards healing and growth and self-discovery.
[00:09:25] Writing can be your sanctuary, your personal revolution, and your gift to yourself. Don't underestimate how powerful it can be to simply make your voice heard by showing up and writing.
[00:09:39] If you've been waiting for a sign to write your book, this is it. 2025 is your year to step into your power, embrace your story, and share your written gifts with the world.
[00:09:51] The world needs your voice now more than ever, and your story is a legacy just waiting to be written. So what's stopping you? [00:10:00] Let's make a promise together.
[00:10:01] This year. You'll take the first step. Start by jotting down an idea. Carving out 10 minutes a day, or maybe just simply believing that this might be possible for you.
[00:10:16] I'm here to cheer you on every step of the way

[00:10:40] Before I sign off on this episode, I wanna share with you my word of the year for 2025.
[00:10:46] this episode airs in March of 2025, we'll be about a quarter of the way through the year. Can you believe that? I think it's a good opportunity to share with you my word of the year and also tell [00:11:00] you how it's going if you've never chosen a word of the year before you're in for a treat.
[00:11:05] When this trend started a few years ago, I was really skeptical at first, but I have embraced it because I have found that it offers a lot more clarity and focus than your typical run of the mill resolution. So what is a word of the year? A word of the year is a guiding principle. A theme, an intention that you carry with you throughout the year instead of a long list of resolutions that you might forget after one week, you choose one word that acts as your north star
[00:11:38] A word of the year is not like a resolution. It's not about perfection. It's not about pressure. It's not about some arbitrary number or goal that you may have set for yourself. Instead, this is really about focus and alignment for the entire [00:12:00] year. For example, your word could be something like growth, courage, create balance. It is a deeply personal act to choose this word, and it should reflect what you want to invite more of into your life for that coming year. Last year, my word of the year was embodiment. I actually talked about in episode nine of this podcast about the importance of embodiment in becoming a writer in terms of who I really wanted to be as a writer, and the word was one that I held onto all of last year.
[00:12:38] And truly, I feel like I made very big strides, including some major life decisions in working towards actually embodying the kind of life that I wanted, even beyond my writing life. And the year before that, so 2023, my word of the year was badass. Mostly because it was a word that I was kind of [00:13:00] afraid of when thinking about how it applied to me and boy to the universe.
[00:13:05] Send me a lot of opportunities to work on that.
[00:13:10] For me, the word of the year often ends up like that. It becomes kind of like a theme within my year, and the universe seems to respond by giving me all kinds of opportunities to show that I am really, actually very committed to that theme this year.
[00:13:25] The word of the year I chose is focus. I chose this word because I really wanna dial it in and focus on my goals.
[00:13:33] It is so easy for me to get distracted. Like you, I'm busy with kids and with work I have a ton of ideas all the time. Like I never have any shortage of ideas. They just are constantly pouring into me and my goal. When I'm dealing with all that noise this year is really to try to focus on just one thing at a time and really push forward on that goal.
[00:13:58] So this is much [00:14:00] different from how I have lived my life, like really up until now when it comes to many of my goals, which in the past I've always just tried to have like multiple balls on the field and I try to move each ball just a little bit up the field. Well, when you do that, you. Maybe juggling a lot of balls.
[00:14:17] You may be moving a lot of balls up the field, right? But like it is taking a very long time to get anywhere and so I want to really try something different this year I want to focus on one thing, so I am not going to as hard as as it is for me, I am not going to start. 17 different works. I'm going to focus on one.
[00:14:40] I'm gonna do my best to focus on one and really get it done. And so that is why focus is my word of the year. So far being that it's March, and I picked this word in January so far, this is actually working. This is part of the reason why it has taken me a little [00:15:00] while to get back to podcasting to y'all after the new year.
[00:15:03] I purposefully chose to put the podcast on pause for a hot minute while I got some things in order. Really focused on my health. We had been very sick over the holidays in my household with some pneumonia and some strep and some influenza, and probably some covid thrown in there to boot. So I really wanted to take the time to focus on getting everyone back into a place where they were healthy, including myself.
[00:15:27] I then wanted to really focus on setting up some very healthy habits. For myself, including kind of shifting what my mornings looked like and really focusing on getting up at the time that I need to get up in order to really take care of myself and make my own mental wellbeing, spiritual wellbeing, physical wellbeing, a true priority.
[00:15:51] So getting up early enough in the morning, and I needed some time to get that all in order.
[00:15:56] And so now that is in order, and now [00:16:00] here I am and I can return. To you all with the podcast, so it's so great to be back. I really appreciate you all. I hope that you'll show me some grace when I have to take a pause like that in my life, or pause with the podcast, due to other circumstances in my life.
[00:16:15] But I do really appreciate all of you beautiful, loyal listeners hanging on there with me. So that is my word of the year focus. How about you? Do you already have a word of the year? Do you feel inspired to get a word of the year? And if so, what is that
[00:16:36] if you are not sure what your word of the year is, I would recommend that you take time to think about what it is that you really wanna invite more of into your life.
[00:16:49] Is it maybe being more creative, more confident? Having more connections, really cultivating that connection with folks. Is there a [00:17:00] feeling or an energy that you want to cultivate? Take some time. And if a word seems to jump out at you, or if a theme or a general idea seems to jump out at you, just grab it and run with it.
[00:17:14] Trust your intuition. You don't need to overthink this. You're not gonna share this with anyone. It doesn't have to be the perfect word to show like what an amazing mom you are or what a great employee you are.
[00:17:24] It's just a word for you to help you. As you move through the course of the rest of this year, it can be your guide, your North Star. You can measure your actions against it. Are you living in alignment with that word of the year? Once you've chosen your word of the Year, you can make it a part of your daily life.
[00:17:47] You can display it, journal about it regularly. I have a bracelet with my Word of the year on it. Alright, my friends, that is it for today's episode. Thank you [00:18:00] so much for tuning in to Mom Writes. First, please don't forget to subscribe to this podcast and the newsletter for more inspiration and practical tips.
[00:18:09] You can find everything you need in the show notes and in case no one has reminded you today. You are a resourceful, creative, whole human being. You are not just a human body and you are not a human doing. You are a human being. You are capable, you are loved, and your ideas, your words, and your stories matter.
[00:18:33] Now, let's write.
